Expectations

Philosophy and Goal

The PHS Raider Volleyball program is dedicated to building not only fundamentally sound, competitive volleyball players, but players with great character, leadership abilities and good sportsmanship. The team philosophy varies a little from team to team.Playing time is never guaranteed at any level and will never be equal among the athletes. There are many logistics involved when deciding playing time. Decisions have to be made with regard to positions, substitute restrictions, work ethic, commitment etc. We cannot guarantee equal playing time at any level. The varsity level is competing to win, yet have fun along the way while building a great team atmosphere. Substitutes and playing time may be very limited at times. The JV team philosophy is not necessarily about the wins and losses. The goal of the JV team is to continue to grow and build their skills so they are one day ready for the varsity level commitment. Playing time at this level will be distributed in a way that works best for the team along with continuing to build the basic skills and strategies for each individual player. Playing time at the ā€œCā€ team level is focused on basic skill level, team commitment and strategic play. Playing time at this level will be distributed to fit the needs of the make-up of the team and yet ensure that each player is given time to develop their skill base. The coaching staff will take a positive approach towards players, other coaches and the volleyball program to build positive self-esteem in our athletes. The volleyball coaching staff will support our athletes while they are trying to balance their school-work, family, athletics and social lives.
