Lower School Sports

Prekindergarten

Spring

Soccer  (boys and girls) – Soccer clinics that teach basic skills of the game are offered through Challenger Soccer.  Participants practice once a week and play games on Saturday mornings on the Wornall campus. The clinic runs for seven weeks and typically begins the first full week of school after spring break.  Jerseys will be provided to each player.  

Kindergarten

Fall

Soccer  (boys and girls) – A soccer program that teaches the basic skills of the game are offered through Brookside soccer.  Participants practice once a week and play games on Saturdays. Jerseys will be provided to each player.  

Winter

Basketball (boys and girls) – A basketball clinic is offered to students in kindergarten beginning in January and running for six Saturdays.  The program is organized by the lower school athletics program and takes place in the Deramus Field House on the Wornall campus.  

Spring

Soccer (boys and girls) – A soccer program that teaches the basic skills of the game are offered through Brookside soccer. Participants practice once a week and play games on Saturdays. Jerseys will be provided to each player. 

Baseball (boys and girls) - Baseball will be offered to students through Nall Hills baseball.  Practices will be held once at week at locations to be determined by each coach and games will be played at the Jewish Community Center.  

First Grade

Soccer (boys and girls) – Students  participate in the Brookside Soccer League.  They practice once a week and play their games on the weekends at fields in Swope Park.  .  

Winter

Basketball  (boys) - The boys will have the opportunity to play basketball through the Great American Basketball League (GABL).  Students will practice once a week and games will be Fridays-Sundays, and will be scheduled December-February. The league will provide jersey shirts and the students will be asked to wear black shorts.

Basketball (girls) - The girls will have the opportunity to play basketball through the Great American Basketball League (GABL). Students will practice once a week and games will be Fridays-Sundays, and will be scheduled December-February. The league will provide jersey shirts and the students will be asked to wear black shorts.

Second Grade

Flag Football (boys) – Flag football will be offered through the YMCA’s program.  Games are played on Saturdays.  Practices will be held on Pembroke Hill fields.  The YMCA will provide the uniforms.

Lacrosse Clinic (boys) – The boys will participate in the Kansas City Youth Lacrosse League, (KCYLL). The boys will practice once a week and have one game per weekend.

Baseball (boys and girls) - Baseball will be offered to students through Nall Hills Baseball.  Practices will be held once a week at locations to be determined by each coach and games will be held at the Jewish Community Center.  

Third Grade

Fall

Soccer (boys and girls) – Students participate in the Brookside Soccer League.  They  practice once a week on the Kroh campus fields and play their games on the weekends at fields in Swope Park. 

Flag Football (boys)  – Flag football will be offered through the YMCA’s program, which has its games on Saturdays at the Bible College, located at 74th and Metcalf.  Practices will be held on Kroh campus fields.  The YMCA will provide the uniforms.  

Field Hockey Clinic (girls) - The field hockey clinic is a five-session program introducing students to the game of field hockey.  It is led by the varsity field hockey coaching staff and is held on the field hockey field on the Wornall campus.  It is held after school on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.  Participants will learn the basic skills of the game and scrimmage during practice.  Sticks and shin guards will be available to those who need them, and each player must provide their own mouth guard.

Lacrosse (girls) – A combined team of 3/4 grade students will play through the Kansas City Metro Girls Lacrosse Association. Practices will be held once a week on Kroh Field.   

Baseball (boys and girls) - Baseball will be offered to students through 3 & 2 baseball.  Practices will be held once a week at locations to be determined by each coach.

Fourth Grade

 Spring

Soccer (boys and girls) – Students participate in the Brookside Soccer League.  The students  practice once a week on the Wornall campus fields and play their games on the weekends at fields in Swope Park.

Track (boys and girls) - Those participating in track and field are part of the Kansas City Parochial League, KCPL.  Barry White and Caroline Doctor will coach the team and practices are held the Ward Parkway stadium track.  The exact days will be determined in the spring.  The team participates in two meets during the season.  The students are each given a t-shirt for the meets.  

Lacrosse (boys) - Students playing lacrosse will play through the Kansas City Youth Lacrosse League (KCYLL). Practices will be held once a week on Kroh Field. The league uses an age based program when creating teams. We are no longer able to create teams based on grades. The birth dates for each team is as follows:

U13: 9/1/2002 - 8/31/2004

U11: 9/1/2004 - 8/31/2006

U9: 9/1/2006 +

Fall

Soccer (boys and girls)  – Teams will be coached by parent volunteers. Practices will be held on the Kroh campus fields on the Ward Parkway campus.  The team will play in the Brookside Soccer League. 

Field Hockey Clinic (girls) - The field hockey clinic is a 5-session program introducing students to the game of field hockey.  It is led by the varsity field hockey coaching staff and is held on the hockey field on the Wornall campus.  It is held after school on Wednesdays from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.  Participants will learn the basic skills of the game and scrimmage during practice.  Sticks and shin guards will be available to those who need them and each player must provide their own mouth guard.  

Tackle Football (boys) - Tackle football is offered through the Kansas City Parochial School League.  This will be a combined fifth and sixth grade team.  The boys will practice twice a week on the varsity practice field.  The Sports Council will provide shoulder pads and jerseys.  Each player is responsible for their mouth guard, white pants with pads and cleats.  The cleats need to be molded cleats, no spikes are allowed. 

Winter

Students will practice once a week and games will be Fridays-Sundays, and will be scheduled December-February. The league will provide jersey shirts and the students will be asked to wear black shorts.

Track (boys and girls) - Those participating in track and field are part of the Missouri Parochial School League.  Barry White and Caroline Doctor coach the team and practices are held at 5:30 p.m. at the stadium track.  The exact days will be identified in the spring.  The team participates in two meets during the season.  The students are each given a t-shirt for the meets.
