General Information

History

The Pembroke Hill School is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school serving students from Early Years (age 2) through 12th grades. Pembroke Hill was created in 1984 through the merger of the all-girls Sunset Hill School (founded in 1913) and the all-boys Pembroke-Country Day School (founded in 1910).

 Enrollment

 1,162 total; 403 students in the Upper School; 93 students in the Class of 2011.

 Location

The Wornall campus, adjacent to Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza district, is the home for students in early years through fifth grades, while the Ward Parkway campus houses sixth through 12th grades.  

 Community

Students from six surrounding counties in both Kansas and Missouri travel to Pembroke Hill each day. These students represent a variety of socioeconomic, religious, ethnic and racial backgrounds; students of color represent 20 percent of the school population.

 Faculty

The school has 134 faculty members; 60 have master’s degrees and eight hold doctorates. The student-faculty ratio is 11:1. The average Pembroke Hill faculty member has 17 years of teaching experience.

Financial Aid

For the 2009-2010 school year, more than $2 million in need-based financial aid has been awarded to 20 percent of the school’s students.

Malone Scholarships

Pembroke Hill offers Malone Scholarships to students in seventh through 12th grades who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, as well as significant financial need (at least 50 percent of tuition). Students identified as Malone Scholars can receive up to 100 percent of tuition and fees. These scholarships are renewable through graduation.
