Pembroke Hill is a community of learners -
students, faculty/staff, parents and alumni. We are dedicated to
helping our students achieve educational excellence while guiding them
to become individuals of character who believe that they can and do make
a difference in our school community and the community beyond Pembroke
Hill.
Our school enjoys the dedicated support of all members of
the school community, and we are well aware that it truly takes the
efforts of our entire community for our school to be the dynamic and
successful school that it is. It is often said at Pembroke Hill that
when a child enrolls in our school, the entire family enrolls!
We
are proud of our diverse community that includes individuals who
represent all geographic, ethnic, religious and socio-economic sectors.
It is this diversity that makes us strong and provides the school with
many opportunities for wonderful discussions, insights and
understanding.
We are a vibrant community. We invite you to join us!
Mission
The mission of the Pembroke Hill School is to help each student build character and to develop his or her intellectual, physical and creative abilities to the highest possible level. This statement, coupled with the school’s motto, Freedom With Responsibility, guides our work, from the creation of our strategic plan to the decisions we make daily.
Developing Character
Helping students develop character is an integral part of each day at Pembroke Hill and is addressed in age-appropriate ways for all students. In each of the divisions, these issues are addressed formally through well-defined programs and informally in those “teachable moments” that arise in the hallways, on the playing fields or in the dining rooms.
Developing Intellectual Abilities
Our curriculum challenges our students whether they are 2-years-old just starting out on their academic journeys or whether they are preparing for the SATs. But, throughout that journey, our students are supported by teachers who love teaching, love their subject matter and love their students. Teachers at Pembroke Hill know their students well. Not only do our teachers interact with students in small classes, but also as advisers and coaches. Our students do well in their academics, and they are often recognized regionally and nationally for their scholastic accomplishments through such programs as National Merit, National Science Olympiad and AP exams.
Developing Physical Abilities
Beginning in the lower school and continuing through sixth grade, students may play sports through the Parents Association Sports Council. Interscholastic sports begin in seventh grade, and the school offers over 20 sports. While student participation is the goal of our teams below the varsity level, our teams routinely do well. Student-athletes brought home six state titles in 2005-06 and one through the fall season of 2006-07.
Developing Creative Abilities
Students explore their creative sides through an extensive fine and performing arts program. Pembroke Hill students, from the time they enter PHS, have many opportunities to be in front of their peers and the school community to express their opinions and to showcase their artistic talents. We believe this is the reason our graduates are so articulate and comfortable with public speaking. Each year, we see an increase in the number of students who choose to continue to study art – both visual and performing - in college.
Our Shared Values
At Pembroke Hill our educational goals help us form our beliefs and our values.
- We
believe in fostering in our students the joy of learning, the love of
discovery, the confidence to grow and a sense of responsibility and
respect for others.
- We believe in creating a nurturing
environment in which children are central and where they develop a
sound knowledge base in core academic disciplines.
- We believe
in placing a strong emphasis on character and citizenship education and

welcomes, respects, values and benefits from individual differences.

- We believe in nurturing creativity and aesthetic appreciation.
- We believe in our students.
Strategic Plan
Pembroke Hill School completed a Strategic Plan , Connections, which was approved by the Board of Trustees in June 2005. This document includes five strategic initiatives: Curriculum, Instruction and Learning; Professional Community; School Relationships; Diversity; and Resource Stewardship. Goals have also been developed for each of the strategic initiatives.
The Strategic Plan is a living document at Pembroke Hill; it guides our decision making on a daily basis. Each spring, the Board of Trustees reviews the Strategic Plan and progress made toward its goals.
