Student Support

While Pembroke Hill does not have a specific program for identifying or providing special educational or related services to students with disabilities, including, but not limited to, ADD/ADHD, diagnosed learning disabilities or Asperger’s Syndrome, nevertheless, the faculty and staff at Pembroke Hill are able to work with a student and parents to develop strategies that assist with a range of learning styles, learning or behavioral needs and /or attention difficulties. These strategies may include reasonable modifications to Pembroke Hill’s practices and procedures.

The student support services at Pembroke Hill are based on the philosophy that a team approach is the most effective way to assist students with learning issues. To this end, Pembroke Hill formed the Student Services Team in 1999. The team includes principals, the school nurse, reading specialists, counselor, learning specialists and speech, hearing and occupational therapists as needed. When a student is referred to the Student Services Team, appropriate members of the team work together to discuss and identify the issue and to formulate a plan of action.

The team is always in communications with parents and any outside professionals retained by the student’s family. Strategies are determined with input from parents, teachers, Pembroke Hill staff, outside professionals retained by the family such as tutors, counselors, etc., and, if appropriate, the student.

The team believes that, in many cases, early identification of an issue and early intervention are key to providing a successful outcome for our students.
