Extended Day Program

For families whose schedules require it, Pembroke Hill offers fun and age-appropriate programs for students, from early years through eighth grade, after the conclusion of their regular school day. These activities, under the guidance of PHS teachers, may include completing homework assignments, baking cookies, exploring a new craft or participating in a science experiment.

Early Childhood

For the youngest Pembroke Hill students, the early childhood school offers an after-school program from 3-6 p.m each day. This Extended Day program is a multi-aged setting and is located in a room in the early childhood building. The teaching staff provides the children with age-appropriate activities through a balanced schedule of small and large group settings, with quiet and active play, including outdoor fun, arts, crafts and music. Our program also offers children continuity of care by providing childcare on many days that school is not in session.

The goal of the early childhood Extended Day program is to offer children a program that allows them to de-stress from their day. The schedule allows a great deal of flexibility with lots of free play both inside and outside. While there are activities planned, children have the option to participate or not. Sometimes, children may not want to do the activity, but would rather look at books quietly or just sit in teachers’ laps. But whatever the children choose, there is always a lot of tender, loving care. Drop-in care is available based on our staffing.

Lower School

The Extended Day program provides a safe, nurturing place that encompasses a wide variety of after-school activities for students.

Hours
Extended Day begins at 3:10 p.m., when school dismisses and ends promptly at 6 p.m. Please note, parents who do not pick up their child(ren) by 6 p.m., will incur a $1 late fee per child, per minute.

K-2
At dismissal, students in grades K-2 are escorted to Deramus Field House for attendance and snack, before given the opportunity to experience both organized and free play activities. Activities will be held inside the field house, on the playground, and on occasion elsewhere on campus.

3-5
Extended Day for grades 3-5 is also located in Deramus Field House. They have a study hall period from 3:10 to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. This provides students with an opportunity to complete homework before leaving campus. Extended Day staff members are available to assist children with homework when necessary. Snack will also be provided. After study hall and on Fridays, they will engage in a variety of planned and free time activities.

Health And Safety
The Extended Day staff takes safety seriously and is trained in first-aid and CPR. Given the active nature of some of the activities, occasionally, a bump or bruise results. Please be assured we will contact you with anything more than a minor injury or illness.

Sign Out
It is very important to sign your student out of Extended Day. The sign-out sheet will always be with a staff member. This ensures the safety of the students, as well as our record keeping process.

Middle School

An after-school study hall program for middle school students is offered from 4-6 p.m., Monday through Friday in Kemper Library. A faculty member supervises this study time.

You may register your child for the full day, or choose only to register for care during your conference time.
