  • Pembroke Hill is an independent college preparatory school located in the heart of Kansas City near the Country Club Plaza. It enrolls nearly 1,200 students age 2 years through 12th grade.
  • Pembroke Hill is operated by a Board of Trustees whose 20 members include parents, alumni and city leaders.
  • Pembroke Hill is located on two campuses near the Country Club Plaza. The Wornall campus (400 W. 51st St.) provides programs for children age 2 years through fifth grade. Students in sixth through 12th grade attend classes on the Ward Parkway campus (5121 State Line Road).
  • Pembroke Hill is a merged school. The Pembroke-Country Day School for boys (founded in 1910) and The Sunset Hill School for girls (founded in 1913) joined forces in 1984 to become The Pembroke Hill School. The school celebrated its Centennial in 2010-11.
  • Pembroke Hill’s faculty is outstanding. More than half of our teachers hold master’s degrees - 11 have earned doctorates. Our teachers have an average 18 years experience – 12 of those years at PHS.
  • An 11-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio allows our students to receive individual attention.
  • Pembroke Hill provides more than $2 million annually in financial aid.
  • Our students learn in an environment where expectations are high and excellence is expected. At PHS, all students work hard and find supportive peers in their academic and extracurricular endeavors.
  • Pembroke Hill students live throughout the metropolitan area – approximately half live in Missouri; the other half reside in Kansas.
  • We are proud of our diverse and inclusive community - 23 percent of Pembroke Hill students are students of color.
  • Pembroke Hill has a strong commitment to community service, from our youngest students through upper school - 60 hours of service during upper school are required for graduation. A large majority exceed this requirement.
  • Our school promotes character development such as honesty, initiative, integrity, courage, flexibility, perseverance, organization, sense of humor, effort, common sense, problem solving, responsibility, friendship, cooperation, caring and respect.
  • Our extracurricular program offers extensive opportunities for students beginning in kindergarten. Students may participate in chess, publications, community service, student government, interscholastic athletics (starting in middle school) and special interest clubs. Nearly 80 percent of our upper school students are involved in an extracurricular activity; 82 percent are part of an athletic team.
  • One hundred percent of PHS seniors go on to college and more than 90 percent are accepted each year to their first or second choice college or university.
  • In the past three years (2009-11), 302 students have graduated from Pembroke Hill. Collectively, these students were admitted to 258 different colleges and universities. They matriculated to 127 schools in 34 states, the District of Columbia and the U.K.
  • Our parent community is an integral part of PHS. The Parents Association provides tremendous support through volunteers, fundraising and input on school issues.
  • Pembroke Hill is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).
