From the Division Head

Middle School division head speaks to studentsThe Pembroke Hill middle school is a very special place filled with caring teachers and amazing students.

Often people think the middle school years are daunting, but those of us who work with sixth, seventh and eighth graders at PHS think these are the best years. Students have the opportunity to discover who they are, explore new talents and expand their interests, while still being a little goofy and silly.

As the middle school division head, I extend a personal invitation to visit our school as you explore middle school choices. There are numerous reasons you should consider Pembroke Hill for middle school, here are a few.

During these short three years of middle school, students go through tremendous growth and self-discovery. Our dedicated faculty prepares students to enter the upper school by developing their academic skills, self-identity and confidence. Small class sizes, one teacher for every 11 students, allows every student to be known, cared for and valued.

Unlike many schools, PHS extracurriculars are alive and well. Students explore different opportunities in interscholastic sports, clubs and organizations. We have a no-cut policy in our interscholastic sports program. Nearly all middle school students participate in multiple activities. Here, students can play a sport, act in the play, be a club officer or do all three!

In addition to our core subjects, we also offer an extensive list of exploratory elective courses for student selection. Classes range from broadcast journalism, computer coding, robotics, writing lab and more. Students can choose up to four different electives throughout the school year.

Our middle school has extraordinary results. The Science Olympiad team has qualified for the national tournament seven times in the last 10 years. Each year our students earn numerous Scholastic Art Awards. The Mathcounts team consistently qualifies for state competition, resulting in top placements by our students. PHS students score higher than most students in leading independent schools across the country on the highly respected ERB achievement tests.

These results are due to the fact teaching and learning are at its highest level. Pembroke Hill middle school is a place where positive, supportive relationships exist and a growth-oriented culture of excellence thrives.

I hope you will visit the middle school and see this fantastic place in person. To make an appointment to learn more about our middle school, contact Bart Robertson, assistant director of admissions, 816-936-1536 or .
