Girls Swimming and Diving
The varsity girls swimming and diving team traveled to the University of Missouri-Columbia for the CoMo Invitational Friday and Saturday, Jan. 4-5. Freshman Audrey Lambert secured fourth place in the 100-yard breaststroke, and 16th place in the 200-yard individual medley. In addition, Audrey broke the 27-year-old Pembroke Hill breaststroke record set by Ursula Miller in 1991 (1:07.83). Audrey’s time was 1:07.41. Also, freshman Ella Palmet finished in 20th place in the 500-yard freestyle; the JV 200-yard freestyle relay team placed seventh in its race; and sophomore Gaby Bortnick took 20th place in the diving competition.
The varsity girls basketball team notched its first victory of the season, 40-30, over Southeast on Friday, Jan. 4. The team will try and make it two in a row Monday, Jan. 7, as they compete in the Pleasant Hill boys and girls basketball tournament against top-seeded Odessa.
The varsity boys basketball team played two games last week. The team defeated St. Michael the Archangel, 53-40, in Lee's Summit on Thursday, Jan. 3. The team was upended by East Buchanan, 70-47, in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Basketball Classic Saturday, Jan. 5, at Benton. The team returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the Pleasant Hill tournament against the host team.
The varsity wrestling team competed in Excelsior Springs on Saturday, Jan. 5. Sophomore Jon Pallotto (132 pounds) made his first final and placed second. Freshman John Benson (170 pounds) and junior Cameron D'Agostino (152 pounds) both took seventh place in their respective weight classes. The team takes on Harmon and Lone Jack Tuesday, Jan. 8, at home, and will honor four seniors on Senior Night Thursday, Jan. 10.
