In honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, Monday, Jan. 18, there will be no classes, and school offices will be closed.

As we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr., there are many safe opportunities to serve our communities as a way to honor his legacy. The activities listed below accommodate COVID safety protocols and are suggestions we share from a local YMCA.

  • Create sleeping mats out of plastic bags for the homeless
  • Write cards to people in ICU and deliver them to a local hospital
  • Write cards to frontline workers and deliver them to local hospitals and other essential service providers
  • Create dog toys or treats for animals at a local shelter
  • Go outside and pick up litter
  • Write a letter to an elderly friend who might be isolated
  • Create Kindness Rocks and place them around your community
  • Clean out a closet and donate to a shelter
  • Create a care package for a neighbor
  • Create sack lunches for the homeless
