Rick Castillo, manager of safety services for the Olathe School District, has been appointed Pembroke Hill director of security effective Dec. 16, 2019. He comes to PHS after serving in law enforcement and security management for over 30 years. Before joining Olathe, he was with the Overland Park, Kan., Police Department from 1986 to 2015, where he reached the rank of captain.

“Rick’s extensive school experience combined with his affable personality makes him a great fit to lead our school security program,” explained Brad Shelley, head of school. “He will be a great leader and resource for our students, faculty/staff and entire community.”

Rick brings a significant background in public safety, crisis management and emergency operations planning. During his tenure with Olathe, he developed safe school strategies and emergency procedures, collaborated with public safety officials and conducted building security assessments.

"I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to serve Pembroke Hill School,” Rick said. “I look forward to building relationships and working diligently to enhance the safety of the school community.”

A graduate of Kansas State University, Rick holds a master’s degree in adult occupational and continuing education; he also earned a bachelor’s degree in management and human relations from MidAmerica Nazarene University. In the law enforcement arena, Rick has earned certificates in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design from the National Institute of Crime Prevention and from the Administrative Officer’s Course at the University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute.

We look forward to welcoming Rick to Pembroke Hill.
