In January, head of school Brad Shelley announced that Pembroke Hill initiated a search for the newly-created position of director of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Equity and inclusion are extremely important to the health and culture of our school,” Brad explained. “Not only is this work essential to nurturing and sustaining a strong positive school culture, but it is also an important life skill to prepare students for the world they inhabit, now and in the future.”

He continued, “Hiring a director of diversity, equity and inclusion is one of the steps we are taking to work toward a more inclusive and equitable school environment. This will be an internally and externally focused role in which the director will work within our school community, but also collaborate with businesses, foundations and community leaders/organizations.”

The position will begin for the 2021-21 school year. The director will be a member of the school’s senior leadership team and report to Brad

According to the job summary, the director serves the school as a leader, adviser, advocate and an institutional resource overseeing the implementation of Pembroke Hill’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. In alignment with the school’s mission and core values, and in coordination with the school’s senior leadership team, the director will plan and implement new and existing school-wide diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives to ensure an equitable and inclusive environment for the entire school community. The director will be a listener who is passionate and knowledgeable about DEI work and a mission-focused strategic leader who will work to strengthen, build and execute a holistic, action-oriented DEI strategy for Pembroke Hill both internally and externally.
