Upper School Debate Team Qualifies Six To Nationals; Mock Trial Team Moves On To State

The upper school speech and debate squad qualified three teams to nationals at the district debate/duo national qualifier last week, and the Mock Trial team qualified for state for the first time since 2017. 

Qualifying to the national tournament last weekend were:

  • Caroline O'Shaughnessy and Zara Johnson - Public Forum Debate (First Place)
  • Mubariz Tahirkheli and Aarav Yarlagadda - Policy Debate (First Place)
  • Thomson Corvin and Davis Miller - Policy Debate (Second Place)

Additionally, the policy debate team of Josh Huang and David Marvin finished in fourth place and are first alternates. The team also took home first place in debate sweepstakes at the tournament. 

In Mock Trial, the team of seniors Davis Miller and Kat Brown; junior Tristan Wells; sophomore Andra Brown; and Erin William, Petra Uhlig, Dermot O'Connor and Catherine Zhao advanced out of the Kansas City regional finals in February and moved on to the state tournament, to be held March 27-29, in St. Charles, Mo.
