Weekend Raider Update: Dec. 13, 2021

The girls swimming and diving team won at Raytown and placed fifth in the Winnetonka Holiday Invitational. The dance team placed at the KC Classic in Liberty. Here is your Weekend Raider Update for Dec. 13, 2021.

Girls Swimming and Diving
The girls swimming and diving team started its season off with a bang last week, winning at the Raytown/Raytown South meet Wednesday, Dec. 8, with a team score of 355 points. Four records were broken on the night, including the 11 year-old 100-yard butterfly record, set in 2010 by Lindley Round ’13 (1:01.39). Audrey Lambert broke the record in 59.53. Additionally, 2017 alumna Ellaina Sanders' 500-yard freestyle record, set in 2015 (5:34.58), was broken by AFS student Elena Lazzaretto (new time 5:27:77). Two other records were broken: Elena also lowered Ella Palmet's 200-yard freestyle time (2:03.03), to 2:02.93., and Audrey set a new time in the the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.71), besting her own record (1:08.20). 

The team also competed in the Winnetonka Holiday Invitationa on Saturday, Dec. 11, securing fifth place out of 39 teams with 167 points. Audrey placed first in the 200-yard individual medley, breaking her own school record (old time - 2:12:35, new time-2:12.07). Kaya Alvegaard broke Elena's 200-yard freestyle record with a new time of 2:02:11, and placed fourth. The 200-yard medley relay team (Kaya, Kate Holewinski, Audrey, Elena) also set a new school record (1:56.99) and finished in third place.

The girls will compete in Independence on Saturday, Dec. 18.

The varsity dance team competed in the KC Classic in Liberty on Saturday, Dec. 11. The girls brought home first place in the mix category. 

Girls Basketball
The varsity girls basketball fell to University Academy on Friday, Dec. 10, in a overtime thriller, 58-55. The team finishes 2021 with a game Friday, Dec. 17, at home against Cameron.

Boys Basketball
The varsity boys basketball team lost on a buzzer beater to Van Horn, 68-67, last Friday, Dec. 10. The team plays at home on Friday, Dec. 17, against Lincoln Prep, and Saturday, Dec. 18, in the 12 Courts of Christmas basketball Showcase at Hy-Vee Arena (formerly Kemper Arena). The team plays at 2 p.m. against Des Moines North.

The JV squad defeated Van Horn last Friday, 73-60.
Langston Smith - 16 points
Alex Abbott - 15 points

The C Team also came away with a victory on Friday against Van Horn, 40-29.
Johnny Honnold - 14 points

All-State Volleyball
Sydney Draper, Paige Edwards and Sarah Lattan received their All-State medals on Saturday, Dec. 11, at Lafayette High School in Wildwood, Mo. Paige and Sarah also played in the All-State game as seniors. Congratulations!
