Girls Swimming and Diving
The varsity girls swimming and diving team secured its highest placement ever, 21st place, at the Missouri Class 1 state meet last Thursday and Friday, Feb. 20-21. Sophomore Audrey Lambert was a double medalist, taking sixth place in the 200-yard individual medley and fifth place in the 100-yard breaststroke. Senior Harriet Townsend finished in 16th place in diving, becoming only the second PHS diver to place in the top 16. The 200-yard medley relay team of senior Audrey Lu, sophomore Ella Palmet, Audrey Lambert and freshman Remley Grant broke the school record and finished in 14th place. Ella finished in 19th place in the 200-yard freestyle, breaking the school record as well, and 23rd place in the 500-yard freestyle race. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Audrey Lu, sophomore Claire Holland, freshman Erin Williams and Remley took 30th place. Additionally, senior members of the team will be honored Tuesday, Feb. 25, after the varsity girls basketball game against Bishop Ward.
The varsity boys basketball team got a big win last week, defeating rival Barstow, 68-54. Junior Liam Weaver went over the 1,000 point mark in the victory with a thunderous dunk. Liam will be highlighted at the final home game of the season Thursday, Feb. 27, against Bishop Seabury. Senior boys basketball players will be celebrated tomorrow, Feb. 25, after the varsity girls basketball game against Bishop Ward.
The varsity girls basketball team went 2-0 last week, upending University Academy, 56-18, and a big win over rival Barstow, 44-32. The team finishes off the season this week against Bishop Ward Tuesday, Feb. 25.
The varsity dance team will compete at state Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28-29. The solo dance competition is Friday night at North Kansas City High School, and the mix and pom routines will be at HyVee Arena (formerly Kemper Arena) in Kansas City, Mo.
