Weekend Raider Update: May 17, 2021

The upper school track and field team competed in the Class 3 District 8 championships. The varsity boys tennis team battled to the end versus Rockhurst in the district championship. Here is your Weekend Raider Update for Monday, May 17, 2021.

Track and Field
The upper school track and field team traveled to Chillicothe on Saturday, May 15, for the Class 3 District 8 championships. The boys team finished in fifth place, while the girls team placed sixth. Both teams competed incredibly well and will send several athletes on to sectionals next Saturday, May 22, in Odessa. The top four individuals moved on to sectionals. 

Here are the results:


  • Hadley Jetmore - 1st place (pole vault-all-time personal record 12’8”), first place (200m), second place (100m), third place (400m).
  • Sophie van Zanten - third place (long jump)
  • Preya Nguyen - fourth place (long jump)
  • 4x800 relay - fourth place (Reaghan Gaffney, Sophia Ramos, Erin William, India Williams)
  • 4x100 relay - second place (Anisa Arrington, Joanne de Pierre, Sophie van Zanten, Elsa Wright)
  • 4x200 relay - third place (Anisa Arrington, Joanne de Pierre, Preya Nguyen, Elsa Wright)


  • Darin Conley - first place place (triple Jump), fourth place (discus), third place (shot put)
  • Devin Conley - third place (100m)
  • Aidan Lacy - second place (200m), second place (400m)
  • 4x100m relay - second place (Darin Conley, Devin Conley, Quinton Conley, Aidan Lacy)
  • 4x800m relay - third place (season PR - Jackson Hargroves, Julian Nunez, Robert Read, Niko van Zanten)


  • Jackson Hargroves - fifth place (1600m)
  • Christian Jarrett - sixth place (110m hurdles) and (300m hurdles)
  • Devin Conley - seventh place (200m)
  • Reaghan Gaffney - sixth place (3200m)
  • Cooper Starks - 12th place (400m)

Boys Tennis
The varsity boys tennis team gave Rockhurst a run for its money last Wednesday, May 12, the Class 3 District 7 championships. The Raiders raced out to a 2-1 advantage after doubles, but fell in four singles matches and lost, 5-2. Singles players Jimmy Andrews and Trey Lambright will play in Class 3 Individual Singles State Championships this Thursday through Saturday, May 20-22, at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.

Boys Golf
Senior Grant Beichley and junior Ryan Lee compete today and tomorrow, May 17-18, at the Class 5 State Championships at the Sedalia Country Club. Ryan finished in second place and Grant tied for ninth place at the Class 5 District 4 Championships last week at Winterstone Golf Course in Independence. The team placed fifth at the tournament.

Girls Soccer
The varsity girls soccer team completed its regular season last Wednesday, May 12, with a 3-1 loss to Smithville. The team opens the Class 4 District 14 Championships against Notre Dame de Sion tomorrow, May 18, at 5 p.m., at St. Teresa's Academy.

The varsity baseball team ended its regular season last week with back-to-back victories over Blue Valley North and Sumner Academy. The team upended BVN, 5-2, on Thursday, May 13, then turned around and defeated Sumner, 12-2, on Friday, May 14. The squad opens Class 5 District 8 play against Winnetonka on Tuesday, May 18, at 7 p.m. at the Urban Youth Academy. 

Boys Lacrosse
The varsity boys lacrosse team will open the LAKC playoffs versus Northland this Wednesday, May 19, at Park Hill High School. Game time is 8 p.m.

Middle School News
The middle school girls lacrosse team ended its season undefeated and finished as league champions. Congratulations!
