Weekend Raider Update: Nov. 14, 2022

The varsity boys swimming and diving team took fourth place at the Class 1 State Championships. The varsity football team made it to the Class 2 District 6 Championship game. Middle school basketball begins this week. Here is your Weekend Raider Update for Nov. 14, 2022.

Boys Swimming and Diving
The varsity boys swimming and diving team captured fourth place at the Class 1 State Championships on Saturday, Nov. 12, in St. Peters. Mo., garnering 165 points.

Results from State:

  • Diving - Zach Berg (second place)
  • 200-yard Individual Medley - Marat Usov (second place and new school record 1:52.88)
  • 100-yard Butterfly - Marat Usov (second place and new school record 51.42)
  • 200-yard Freestyle Relay - second place and new school record 1:28.73 (Joe Bortnick, Nicholas Frank, Andrew Kim, Tyler Sproull)
  • 100-yard Butterfly - Nicholas Frank (third place)
  • 100-yard Backstroke - Nicholas Frank (fifth place and new school record 51.98)
  • 400-yard Freestyle Relay - fifth place (Joe Bortnick, Nicholas Frank, Andrew Kim, Marat Usov)
  • 200-yard Medley Relay - ninth place and new school record 1:40.16 (Joe Bortnick, Andrew Kim, Tyler Sproull, Marat Usov)
  • 50-yard Freestyle - Andrew Kim (13th place)

Football
The varsity football battled the Holden Eagles in the Class 2 District 6 championship game on Friday, Nov. 11. The team held leads at halftime (18-14) and midway through the third quarter (25-20). Unfortunately, the Raiders lost in a tight contest, 32-25. 

Additionally, head football coach Sam Knopik was recognized by the Kansas City Chiefs as its Missouri high school coach of the week. Sam was recognized by Chiefs director of community engagement and Hall of Honor member Gary Spani prior to football practice on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Middle School Basketball
Middle school basketball practices start Monday and Tuesday. Seventh and eighth grade boys and girls, and sixth grade boys teams begin Monday, Nov. 14. Sixth grade girls teams open practice on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Fall Sports Awards Night
Fall student-athletes will be honored at the fall sports awards night Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Hall Student Center Auditorium. Also, sophomore Andrew Nottberg is collecting used tennis shoes for the Victory Project and GotSneakers at the program. 

Volleyball
Senior Sydney Draper competed in the Metro Sports KC Missouri/Kansas All-Star Game Saturday, Nov. 12, at North Kansas City High School. Sydney was also nominated for Setter of the Year.

Boys Basketball
Senior Devin Conley signed his letter of intent to play men's basketball at Emporia State University on Wednesday, Nov. 9, in the Bellis Athletic Center competition gym. 

Boys Tennis
Head boys tennis coach Scott Hanover was awarded the High School Coach of the Year Award by the USTA Heart of America District on Wednesday, Nov. 9.
