The varsity boys cross country team secured second place in the small school division at Grain Valley. The varsity girls tennis team won, 8-1, over Grain Valley on Senior Night. These highlights and more are in this week's Weekend Raider Update for Oct. 7, 2019.
The varsity cross country team traveled to Grain Valley for its annual Sock It To Breast Cancer invitational on Saturday, Oct. 5. The boys team took second place in the small school division. Junior Jackson Hargoves was the top boys finisher, edging out junior Jackson Chu for eighth place in a sprint to the finish line. Sophomore Ella Palmet was the top girls finisher, securing 12th place. The team will compete Thursday, Oct. 10, at Shawnee Mission Park.
The varsity girls tennis team had a successful Senior Night, upending Grain Valley, 8-1, on Thursday, Oct. 3. Seniors Jackie Berry, Maddie Gearin, Emma Kershenbaum, Lynne Li, Anika Sanchez-Piotrowski, Anna Stechschulte, Harriet Townsend and Lucia Wolfe were celebrated after the match. District play begins for the Raiders on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Owen Tennis Complex.
The varsity boys soccer team defeated Blue Springs in two overtimes, 2-1, in the Gold Out game on Thursday, Oct. 3. Sophomore Corbin Bodamer scored both goals, including the thrilling game winner. The following day, the Raiders returned to the pitch to play Northeast, defeating the Vikings 3-0. The team plays rival Rockhurst tonight, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m., on Stadium Field.
The varsity football team traveled to Forsyth on Friday, Oct. 4, and walked away with a victory, 35-0. The 5-1 Raiders will try to add another win this Friday, Oct. 11, against Central Academy of Excellence. Game time is 7 p.m. at Stadium Field.
The junior varsity boys swimming team won the JV KC Classic on Thursday, Oct. 3, with a team score of 294 points, outpointing Blue Springs by five points. The varsity team competes Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Platte County YMCA.
The varsity volleyball team defeated Center, 25-8, 25-13, on Thursday, Oct. 3, adding to a stupendous sports night for the Raiders. Middle school volleyball also played that night at St. Paul's. The middle school 7/8 blue volleyball squad lost to St. Pauls, 25-14, 16-25, 11-15, and the red team won, 20-25, 25-15, 15-7. The varsity team will try to notch another victory tonight, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m., against Lutheran. Senior Night for the volleyball squad will be next Tuesday, Oct. 15, against Lincoln College Preparatory Academy.
The varsity girls golf team plays at districts today, Oct. 7, at Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond, Mo.
The varsity field hockey team plays in St. Louis against Nerinx Hall, Westminster Christian Academy and Oakville on Oct. 11-12.
