Weekend Raider Update-Sept. 30, 2019

The varsity girls golf team took first place at Shirkey golf course last Monday. Four players medaled in the competition. The varsity girls tennis team overpowered Barstow, 9-0, last week and took second place, at the St. Thomas Aquinas tournament at the Plaza Tennis Center. Additionally, the JV girls tennis team secured second place in the Pembroke Hill JV tournament. This is your Weekend Raider Update for Monday, Sept. 30.


Girls Golf
The varsity girls golf team took first place at Shirkey golf course on Monday, Sept. 23. Four players medaled in the competition. The JV girls golf team won its match at Heart of America golf course Tuesday, Sept. 24, against St. Teresa's Academy and Barstow. Junior Dominica Siragusa won the overall competition with a 44. The team will compete Thursday, Oct. 3, at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield, Mo.

Girls Tennis
The varsity girls tennis team overpowered Barstow, 9-0, on Thursday, Sept. 26. Junior Alisha Castaner won a fantastic match against a tough opponent at number one singles, 8-4. On Tuesday, Sept. 24, the team took second place at the St. Thomas Aquinas tournament, held at the Plaza Tennis Center. Additionally, the JV girls tennis team took second place at the PHS JV tourney on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Junior Addie Schmidt took fourth place at number one singles; junior Mary Caroline Ellis took third place in number two singles; senior Jackie Berry and junior Evelyn O'Reilly secured second place in number one doubles; and sophomore Darryn Fulcher and senior Maddie Gearin took home third place in number two doubles. The team takes on Lee's Summit West on Tuesday, Oct. 1, and returns home for Senior Night on Thursday, Sept. 3, against Grain Valley. Senior night festivities will occur after the match.

Football
The varsity football team lost on Homecoming, 30--7, to Lincoln College Preparatory Academy on Friday, Sept. 27. The team plays at Forsyth this Friday, Oct. 4.

Field Hockey
The varsity field hockey team defeated Notre Dame de Sion, 6-1, last Tuesday, Sept. 24. The team received goals from senior Ellie Hughes (2), sophomore Tate Angrist, freshman Kate Wollard, junior Allie Pierce and sophomore Brooke McCanles. The JV squad also defeated Sion, 3-0. Goals were scored by freshman Elizabeth Thornberry, sophomore Brooke McCanles and junior Charlotte Lawrence. Sophomore Cora Adkins got the shutout. The team will play in St. Louis against Nerinx Hall, Westminster Christian Academy and Oakville Oct. 11-12.

Boys Soccer
The varsity boys soccer team knocked off Barstow, 2-0, on Thursday, Sept. 26. Goals were scored by sophomore Corbin Bodamer and sophomore Garrison Hill. The team lost a thriller the day before against Kansas City East, 2-2 (PKs 4-5). The team returns to action Thursday, Oct. 3, against Blue Springs. 

Boys Swimming
The varsity boys swimming team placed its 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays in the top 24 finals at the CoMo Invitational, its first time ever at the event on Saturday, Sept. 28, in Columbia. The team competes at the KC Classic Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 3-5.

Volleyball
The varsity girls volleyball team took third place at the Cass-Midway tournament on Saturday. In pool play, the team split with Archie (23-25, 25-15) and Lutheran (18-25, 25-17), before upending Prairie View (25-14, 25-11). In the tournament bracket, the Raiders defeated Cass Midway in the first round (25-16, 16-25, 25-8), before succumbing to West Platte in the semifinals in a hard fought match (22-25, 24-26). The team prevailed in the third place match over Benton (25-15, 25-20). Freshman Sydney Draper was named to the All-Tournament Team. The team plays at Heritage Christian on Tuesday, Oct. 1. 

Cross Country
The varsity cross country meet scheduled at St. Pius X on Saturday, Sept. 28, was canceled due to the weather. The team competes at Grain Valley on Saturday, Oct. 5.
