The varsity football team took to the artificial field for the first time Friday, Sept. 2, against Christ Prep. The volleyball team hosted its first competition and triangular in Bellis Athletic Center. Several more sports opened their seasons. Here is your Weekend Raider Update for Sept. 5, 2022.

Football
The varsity football team played its first home game on the artificial turf on Friday, Sept. 2, against Christ Preparatory Academy. It was also the St. Jude Gold Out game supporting childhood cancer awareness month. A huge came out to the game, including Kansas City Chiefs head football coach Andy Reid. Unfortunately, the Raiders fell to Christ Prep, 27-7.

The Raiders travel to Lincoln Preparatory Academy this Friday, Sept. 9. The game is up for HyVee and KMBC's Game of the Week. Please go on to KMBC's Facebook Page to Like or Share the photo of the PHS and Lincoln Prep football helmets. You can also do the same through KMBC's Instagram account.

Volleyball
The upper school volleyball teams played in its first contests in Bellis Athletic Center on Tuesday, Aug. 30, in a triangular against Joplin and Nevada. C-team, JV and Varsity teams utilized all three courts in the competition and Beals Gym to put on the competition. The varsity team defeated Joplin 25-8, 25-22, and Nevada 25-16, 25-17. 

The varsity team fell to rival St. Pius X 19-25, 25-15, 18-25, 12-25 the following day, Wednesday, Aug. 31. The squad next plays on Thursday, Sept. 8, at Lee's Summit. 

Girls Golf
The varsity girls golf team opened its season at the MoKan Tournament at Blue Hills Country Club on Monday, Aug. 29. The team placed 10th with team score of 409. Senior Ava Rasmus was the top PHS individual finisher (17th place), shooting a 91.

The team took third place against rivals St. Teresa's Academy and Notre Dame de Sion on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Minor Park. The squad next competes Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Lakewood Oaks Country Club in Lee's Summit. 

Girls Tennis
The girls tennis team captured three victories last week. The team defeated Liberty, 8-1, on Tuesday, Aug. 30; Notre Dame de Sion, 8-1, on Wednesday, Aug. 31; and Lee's Summit West, 9-0, on Thursday, Sept. 1. 

The team plays Grain Valley on Tuesday, Sept. 6. 

Boys Swimming and Diving
The varsity boys swimming and diving team traveled to St. Joseph to compete against Central (St. Joseph) and Savanah at Missouri Western State University. The squad defeated Central, 124 - 87, and Savannah 154 - 96. Congratulations go out to senior Marat Usov who broke the school record in his 500-yard freestyle race with a time of 5:10.23. The previous record was 5:20.04.

The squad competes in Independence on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

Boys Soccer
The varsity boys soccer team fought through a lightning delay and shut out Smithville, 5-0, on Monday, Aug. 29. Senior Aidan Lacy scored two goals in the victory.The team traveled to Springfield for its annual matches against Springfield Catholic and Kickapoo. The team tied Catholic, 0-0, on Friday night, Sept. 2, and fell to Kickapoo, 5-0. 

The team returns to action this week as it hosts the annual KC Classic against Lincoln College Preparatory Academy, Lee's Summit West and St. Michael the Archangel.

Field Hockey
The varsity field hockey team traveled to St. Louis for the opening Gateway tournament. The team went 2-1-1 in the tourney.

PHS 4 - 0 Arrowhead (Wisc.)
PHS 0 - 0 Glenbard West (Ill.)

The C-Team plays at Sion on Wednesday, Sept. 7. The full team (C, JV and Varsity) travels to Oklahoma City on Friday and Saturday, 9-10.

Cross Country
The boys and girls cross country teams travel to St. Louis to compete in the Forest Park Festival on Saturday, Sept. 10
