Dining

Students in Early Childhood School (two years through prekindergarten) eat lunch in their classrooms. Lunch time is a valuable time to teach the social graces and self-help skills.

The children take turns setting the table using napkins, dishes, glasses and silverware. They learn to say, “Please," and "Thank you,” “Please pass,” and “No, thank you.” They also learn to hone their conversational skills with others.

Lunch is served family-style. Eating family-style facilitates learning about healthy food choices. Everyone learns to serve themselves a little of each food at every meal. Children will try many foods with friends at school that they will not try at home. The teachers eat with the children.

Students in lower school eat lunch in the Wornall Dining Hall. Lunch is served cafeteria-style.

Kindergarten and first graders choose one of two hot entrees or the daily standard meal. Older students choose from the available daily choices to make their meal.

Daily, freshly-made foods include:

• Hot menu items with vegetarian or vegan option
• Homemade soups
• Extensive and varied salad bar with low-fat homemade dressings
• Variety of fruit and vegetables
• Vegan and vegetarian foods
• Deli sandwich station
• Sunflower butter and jelly sandwich station
• Yogurt bar
• Low-fat milk options
• Fresh fruit-infused water
• Iced tea

For kindergartners or first graders who are less adventurous in their food choices, we offer daily standard options.

Upper and middle school students eat lunch in the dining room in Hall Student Center. Middle school lunch is served in two periods: one for sixth grade and another for seventh and eighth grade. Upper school lunch follows. Grab and go lunches are available to upper school students in the commons.
